Report an issue with MP3 Skype Recorder v 4.1

This is a topic to report any issues with MP3 Skype Recorder v.4.1
If you have any problem please post below. Please indicate your OS and Skype version.

Hi everyone

Did anyone get a solution to the issue of actually opening the interface? I ahve the icon on a task bar but I can't open the interface and so now the software records every skye call!  I just want to be able to set the software to either reocrd or not for each call. ALso it would be good to be albe ot specirfiy a path and folder for the MP3's.

Does anyone have an answer to this?

By the way, I found the MP3's I did create in a path something like this:

C:\Users\Andy\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Skype Test Call\andrewjameschamberlain

Just do a search on your hard drive for MP3's that might find it

But I can't redirect them autmaotically!

If anyone knows how to access the interface please let me know

Started from scratch. Uninstalled Skype and MP3.
Downloaded MP3 V 4.2 beta. Have Skype v 6.13.0. Better that MP3 v 4.1 but still not there. The recording sounds like someone in a far away can. Clarity not there yet. Noticed some breakup also.

Another report of 'short time cutout' -- on 4.1 release.
I have now downloaded the (beta?) 4.2 msi from your link below - though it may take me time to test as I am a rare user.

First - the recording quality was great.
Only problem was the cutout - (but that is disastrous on this call as I trusted it to work...!!)
Cutoff at 17min 39 secs -- in a call duration 1 hr 36 mins.
'Normal' recorder shutoff (apparently) after Skype call finished - then the short recording was discovered on playback.

Settings: Sample rate 44100 Hz; Bit rate 96 kbit/s; Stereo mode.
               Revision no. {712C112D-71FC-423A-8AC3-27ACDEAB2EA6}
Skype -- (deliberately not the latest updates)
 Windows 7 Family Premium, Service pack 1,  8gb Ram, 3gb hard-drive space

Really hope the 4.2 version update fixes this! Otherwise - a great product, so very useful. Many thanks and Good luck!!

I just updated to 4.1 and I recorded 2 calls yesterday while playing a game. I listened to the calls and all I hear is me and the game I was playing. With the old version the recording is fine and I can hear my voice and my friends while playing a game. Any fix? Thanks!

I am also  having this problem :( I just reinstalled my Windows 7 Home Pro and went to put mp3 skype recorder on. I believe I'm using Skype v  (Ill confirm the sub numbers when I'm at my computer again) and  MP3 v 4.1. It records me fine but I can bearly hear the other person if at all.

I tried uninstalling it and dropping back to MP3 v 3.1 as I have used it for 3 years and loved it, but that version only picks up  the voice of the person I'm calling and not mine. I have tried switiching it to mono and I still cannot hear me. I also increased the volume of my microphone on both skype and the computer with no result.

I know this is an amazing software and I'd love to continue using it. Is there any recomindations you can offer for me?

Thank you for your time.

I have this problem too. Same setup as PaulS

I would like to ask anybody having bug of premature end of recording to test new version 4.2 before release. I'm asking cause I can't fully test fix of this bug on my machines, it simply never happens on any of my PCs. I believe new version should fix this issue. Download link http://voipcallrecording.com/MP3SkypeRecorderSetup42.msi

You may need to run installer twice if previous version is installed. First run will uninstall previous version and second will install new version.

Please respond if any problem.

Thanks! I'm installing now and will verify the recordings.  I only make a couple calls a day though so it may take a couple to get a good feel for it.

I was having a problem with MP3 Skype Recorder 4.1 as well. It seems like my voice is very quiet in the recording sometimes. Hopefully, that problem will be solved, too.

I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and my Skype version is

I have the same problem like PaulS (of Jan10) under my Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. Recorded MP3 files always contain only 5 to 6 minutes of the call although the program displays the closing window correctly after the call is actually stopped.
Waiting for your update patiently because I appreciated the previous 3.x versions under XP for long time.

Hi Alex,

I too am experiencing a problem with short recording. For instance today I had a call lasting one hour and 33 minutes, but only the first 2 minutes and 23 seconds actually recorded.  The recorder (4.1 downloaded on the 8th Jan - revision number {712C112D-71FC-423A-8AC3-27ACDEAB2EA6}) is set to load automatically and was running showing (minimised) in the system tray when I manually started Skype.  The call started recording on an incomming call @ 11:13, but stopped 2 minutes 23 seconds later (with no indication that it had stopped).

(BTW, some form of visual indication of a recording starting and stopping would be useful - 3.1 used to tell you when a recording had finished)

Recorder settings: Auto start on, start minimised, 16000 sample rate, 64 bit rate, stereo, recording folder - (User)\AppData\roaming\MP3SkypeRecorder\MP3
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1 fully patched, 64 bit
Skype: Version

Same problem as Paul with the same versions of all software he mentions. Let me know if you need a Beta tester for it!

Thank you. I'll contact you soon with beta version.

 Thanks, I'm on this problem.

Hi, It seems to record my speakers output (Not because of the mic, I'm using headphones). Also, It doesn't mute me when I press the mute button on Skype.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Thanks. Will check with portable version.

I eventually had to go back to 3.x. Calls are not being recorded fully and the recording quality is very poor no matter what settings are used.

Windows : 7 home premium x64 SP 1
Skype version :

1) It cuts off the recording early and with out saying it has. Once we recorded a 40 minute talk It recorded 35 minutes. another time it only recorded 3 minutes

2) recordings sound bad compaired to previous version. What is the best optical setting for best recording quality?

thank you for help :)

Bitdefender Internet Security identifies version 4.1 as malicious software. Why is that? What should I do?

False alert. Try some another antivirus to compare. Most likely your antivirus reacting like this on software that was not digitally signed.

Hi, I'm on Windows Seven SP1, I've used Skype Recorder 3.1 before, and I wanted to update by installing v4.1, BUT the issue I have is that your setup file extension is ".MSI" : I get an error from windows installer , saying that Windows Installer service is not accessible ; I've already encountered this issue with an another ".msi" installation ; maybe this is not a problem from your installers, but I notice that some other ".msi" installations are still working e.g: "python-3.3.3.amd64.msi" works well ! ;
Please can you help ? Many thanks !
below a screen-shot, (in French as my language is French):

- regards -

Please check if this topic on microsoft website

As they say on microsoft website, I've tried to write the following in the command line : "ren msi.dll msi.old" but it doesn't works ( "Accès Refusé" - Access Denied ) also I can't modify the registry key ; Maybe I should ask in their support forums ? but I don't know where they are located ( ? ) , and I have no idea about what's going on.

You need to start command line as Administrator.
- go to start menu
- type 'cmd' in search box
- you should see cmd.exe in the list of found programs
- right click on it and choose Run as Administrator

Thanks !

Just tried the 4.1 release. You have fixed the call length issues and now the interface can be brought up at any point. It seems very stable. The recording quality is still very poor. It sounds like there is a lot of static in the capture or it's recording at too high of a level. The actual call had none of those issues and I have done head to head with 3.x and the 3.x recording are superior to 4.1 of the same exact call.

Your programm is very good, thank you!
But on my computer voice of my interlocutor not recording in right channel. Recording going only my voice in left channel.

How can i fix it? Or may you fix it? :)

Can you please try the following steps.
- Open Skype Audio settings
- switch from "Динамики(2-USB Sound device)" to "Динамики(Realtek High Definition Audio)" you should have one in dropdown options
- save settings and try test call to be recorded
- switch settings back
- save again and try recording now.
Does this help?

With this settings http://i.imgur.com/uyr6eX8.png recording worked.
But when i switch settings back - http://i.imgur.com/tYxPAwV.png recorded only microphon.
