I am happy to announce a new version of Skype Call Recorder  - MP3 Skype Recorder v.1.8.3 was released today.  The new version was renamed to MP3 Skype Recorder.
Bugs fixed:

  • sound distortion/clipping on some records.
  • no recording with Skype v.4, which appeared on a few systems.
  • unhandled  exception which appear on the systems with no Skype or  if Skype has no Extras Manager.

New features:

  • improved quality of recording.
  • application starting in minimized mode option.
  • tray icon menu to switch ON/OFF recording.
  • popup indicating starting of the recording process.
  • popup indicating end of recording with the link for easy access to the last record.

In my system, the previous version works well. This version only records one of the channels (the one coming from the remote computer or telephone). Also, unlike the previous version, it does not create an uninstall entry and now the old version will not install due to the new version being installed. I need it today. Hopefully I can get a system restore point to work.

I'm the same person posting above.
Restore to before the new version was installed but after the old one was installed did not work (the old program acquired the same problem as the new program). Restore to before the old version was installed with subsequent reinstall worked, to my relief. I'm using Windows XP Professional

There is an uninstaller. Just look for MP3 Skype Recorder, not Skype Call Recorder as it was before.
Were there any errors during installation process?
Could you check if the program is recording both channels in mono mode? If so, please check if both of your speakers is working, I'm sure that you have done this, but just in case (I've once had absolutely the same problem :))

I did try to check under 'MP3 Skype Recorder' when I wrote that. I did not notice any installation errors. I might check again but right now I just want it to work so I'll just keep the old version (currently I'm using the old version in mono mode with the 64 bitrate setting). I did try various permutations with the settings (mono, stereo & joint stereo) but it didn't seem to help. Maybe later I could try to uninstall the old version and install the new version again but it will be a while before I consider it.

I just updated to the new version, 1.8.3.1, and it no longer records.  Your software has been really helpful and I am looking forward to getting this issue resolved immediately so that I can continue to use it.
I'm on an XP SP 3 machine.

Were there any errors during installation? You can try to uninstall it from Control panel->Add/remove programs, and download and install it once again. Or you can uninstall it and go back to the previous version
